To avoid collision, token ring system, developed by IBM is not using collision detection, but uses a token passing scheme. In a token ring network, a token-free flows in the network. If a node want to send a data packet, the packet data to be transmitted is placed on the token, then the token carrying data packets to the destination, at the time of the token contain data, other nodes can not use the token to the token it sends data to complete its task. When the data packet has been delivered to the destination, the user node before releasing the token to be used by other nodes.
